UFC 79 dark match results can be found here.

9:08 and no fights have started yet but we'll bring you live updates as soon as they're available! 9:18 and we're finally underway with the first fight of the evening.

* Lightweight bout: Rich Clementi vs. Melvin Guillard

Clementi is doing a lot of damage with inside leg kicks. Fight goes to the ground and Clementi had a full nelson but let go of it and ended up taking him down again. Both men get back to their feet with 2:00 left to go in the round. Guillard threw some good punches but slipped and couldn't follow up. Guillard ends up in mount and Clementi spins out of it, nearly locking in an armbar. With 30 seconds left to go Clementi flattens him out and sinks in the choke. Guillard gets up after the stoppage as Clementi apparently said something when he came to, which isn't surprising since Guillard flipped him double birds before the fight began. UNOFFICIAL WINNER: RICH CLEMENTI. The replay shows that Clementi gave him a DX style crotch chop afterwards and when Guillard got upset he mocked him with a "bye bye" wave. Official result is stoppage at 4:40 due to a rear naked choke for the WINNER: RICH CLEMENTI.

* Light heavyweight bout: Lyoto Machida vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou

Sokoudjou throwsa few big bombs early but Machida takes him to the ground and works slowly but surely to side control. Kimura's not there and Machida lets go, grinding it out on the ground to the deafening boos of the crowd. Eventually they force a stand up and Sokoudjou tries to rock him with hands and go for a takedown but couldn't get anything as the round ends. I'll score it a narrow 10-9 for Machida.

Sokoudjou taps out with under a minute to go in round two. We'll have the official results momentarily! 4:27 of R2 due to tapout via arm triangle for the WINNER: LYOTO MACHIDA.

* Heavyweight bout: Eddie Sanchez vs. Soa Palalei

For what it's worth Palalei comes out for the fight to "Damn it Feels Good to Be a Gangsta" by the Geto Boys but it's going to take more than that to win me over. The biggest story of the first round is a time being called by the referee for Sanchez hitting Palalei with an errant strike to the groin. SUPPOSED groin strike anyway, because Palalei didn't look hurt until the time out and THEN started acting like he was in pain. Sanchez catches him with some dirty boxing here and there and lands an uppercut flush to the chin just before the round ends. I'll give it 10-9 to Sanchez.

Round two Palalei seems to be slowly but surely falling apart. A right hand left uppercut combo rocks him, and repeated strikes have blood coming from his nose, exacerbated by a huge knee to the head as the round comes to a close. 10-9 for Sanchez again.

The referee has enough of the beating in round three and calls a stop to the action. Official decision follows. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN MARIO YAMASAKI STOPS IT AT 3:24 OF R3 VIA TKO FOR EDDIE 'THE MANIC HISPANIC' SANCHEZ. Afterwards Sanchez says he shut down due to the uppercut in the second round but that he still has much respect for Palalei and that "he'll be back" in the Octagon.

* Light heavyweight bout: Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva

Chuck lands more strikes in the fist round and Silva seems to be backing away almost the entire time. I'll give R1 10-9 to the Iceman.

R2 Chuck seemed a little more tentative and Wanderlei connected several times, with Chuck almost seeming to "slip" on purpose any time he was in danger. Nevertheless as time was starting to run down in the round Chuck caught him with one punch that EXPLODED blood out the left side of Silva's face and rained down blows. 10-9 Silva perhaps but it was damn close. Liddell did get a takedown of sorts at the end of the round.

Third round starts and there's no doubt Chuck got the takedown this time! Silva was on the run this entire round and Liddell even attempted to hit him with a spinning backfist. Several times Silva was just up against the fence eating blows. 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 for the WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION: CHUCK 'THE ICEMAN' LIDDELL.

* Interim welterweight championship bout: Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre

GSP gets the first takedown of the fight two minutes in. For the rest of the round GSP has the mount and is raining down blows. He gets repeated warnings for strikes to the back of the head so GSP just picks up Hughes and bodyslams his weight down onto Matt repeatedly. Hughes rolls right at the end to escape but GSP can't sink in a choke before time expires. 10-9 GSP.

Round two picks up where R1 left off with GSP getting the takedown and working towards side control. Matt Hughes briefly tries to reverse off the ground and get a takedown but the sprawl stuffs it and GSP spins him down with a takedown right back into side control. From there it's only a matter of time before Pierre goes for the submission and Hughes is locked up with no free limb to tap out so he yells at the referee to indicate he's done. Afterwards GSP celebrates by doing some b-boy backspins and a kip up to his feet. VIVA QUEBEC~!

OFFICIAL DECISION: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN STEVE MAZZAGATTI CALLS A STOP AT 4:54 OF THE SECOND ROUND VIA VERBAL SUBMISSION DUE TO AN ARMBAR, THE NEW INTERIM WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION GEORGES 'RUSH' ST. PIERRE!!!!

GSP takes the belt off after being presented with it and says that while he considers it an honor, he feels the real champion is Matt Serra and that he won't be the champion himself until he beats Serra to take back the title. Nothing but class in the promos from both St. Pierre and Hughes after this fight.

* Bonus Fight: Manvel Gamburyan vs. Nate Mohr

Gamburyan successfully took Mohr down, then dropped back for an ankle lock that forced his opponent to tap at 1:31 of the first round. WINNER: MANNY GAMBURYAN. Nate Mohr appears to be badly hurt in the fight as he's laying on the ground writhing in pain, and both Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg think it's the knee.

Well it's been another awesome final PPV of the year for UFC. Congratulations to Georges St. Pierre and Chuck Liddell on both re-establishing themselves, and congratulations to Joe Silva for putting together another night full of matches that lived up to the hype. I'm especially surprised by Machida's performance tonight and I'm willing to say I was DEAD WRONG about him as a fighter - I expect big things from him in the future. Have a good night and a Happy New Year everyone!
