Living the DREAM~!
* Shoji Maruyama vs. Takeshi Yamazaki
In Round 1 Maruyama lands a flying knee and narrowly misses another right at the bell. Back and forth round until Maruyama scrambles to his feet and hurts his opponent with a knee to the liver (even noted as such by Bas Rutten). Yamazaki takes the fight back to the canvas and quickly takes mount. Yamazaki secures a limb for an armbar, and it's deep. Maruyama sees his arm bend backwards but fights out of it and survives to the time limit. Round 2 is more of the same with Shoji doing more damage when he gets the chance but Yamazaki getting more takedowns and riding time, eventually securing the victory as a result. WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION: TAKESHI YAMAZAKI.
* Jason 'Mayhem' Miller vs. Katsuyori Shibata
Total pwn4g3 for all of round 1 on Miller's part, who comes out in a traditional karate stance before landing a hard low kick. Shibata eats knees and tries to pulls guard with a guillotine, but Miller is not fazed. He slips out and poses for the crowd with a peace sign. Hard left hands rain down from mount by Miller before he moves to side control, then Miller traps the left arm and punches the head. Repeated knees to the head follow from Miller until finally the referee steps in to save Shibata. WINNER AT 6:57 OF THE FIRST: JASON 'MAYHEM' MILLER. Miller cuts a great promo afterwards, switching back and forth between Japanese and English, calling on the support of all of his Mayhem Monkeys worldwide.
* Melvin Manhoef vs. Dae Won Kim
Manhoef was in a little bit of trouble early as Kim got in a few good shots and actually had control from the top, but once Manhoef got back to a dominant position he cracked Kim with a knee to the head so hard and vicious that Kim completely crumbled. WINNER BY TKO AT 4:26 OF THE FIRST ROUND: MELVIN MANHOEF. Afterwards Manhoef cuts a promo in english says he didn't train hard enough on two weeks notice and that next time you're going to see an even MORE dominant performance from him.
* Daisuke Nakamura vs. Bu Kyung Jung
Nakamura is in control for most of round 1. Near the round's end Jung slams Nakamura to the canvas but shows a lack of control as he gives up position. Nakamura looks for a toe-hold and eats a kick to the face in the process but still wins the first round overall. In the second round Nakamura transitions from a standing Kimura to a straight armbar that nearly finishes the fight. A straight right and some follow up strikes seal the deal for Nakamura as the referee jumps in for the stoppage. WINNER AT 1:19 OF R2 VIA KO: DAISUKE NAKAMURA.
* Nick Diaz vs. Katsuya Inoue
From the start of the round until Inoue's corner threw in the towel, Nick Diaz continually peppered the head of his opponent with jabs, uppercuts, and on the rare occasions Inoue got his hands up to block landing solid body shots that were raising red welts on his skin. Once Diaz had his nose bloody there was a brief doctor's stoppage, then a second when Diaz had his opponent upside down on his head eating kicks. Eventually Inoue was just so punch drunk from eating the blows there was no reason to let the fight continue, as Inoue was the textbook definition of "out on his feet." WINNER BY TKO AT 6:45: NICK DIAZ. Diaz thanks the fans and says it's truly a DREAM to be here, then gives a shoutout to Stockton, California. Bas Rutten: "He came forward, boop boop boop, he didn't stop! I don't think there was 10 seconds he didn't throw a punch!" Ring card girl intermission follows, so if you had any doubt this was a PRIDE style show there you go.
EDITOR'S NOTE: My apologies for the delay posting the rest of these results - internet access went out at 5 AM CST during the show.
* Luiz Firmino vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
After a long boring humpfest all three judges award Tatsuya Kawajiri the decision. UNANIMOUS WINNER: TATSUYA KAWAJIRI.
* Eddie Alvarez vs. Joachim Hansen
Pretty much the opposite of the last match - Eddie Alvarez gets the unanimous decision after an exiting back and forth fight. A third round clearly would have been helpful on this one. UNANIMOUS WINNER: EDDIE ALVAREZ.
* Mitsuhiro Ishida vs. Caol Uno
Uno took Ishida's back and sank in a rear-naked choke at 1:38 of the second round. WINNER VIA SUBMISSION: CAOL UNO.
